Love Goathland

Thought the Golly family are fabulous. Can I order by mail?

A fabulous shop

I love this shop. Great choice of products and you can phone up and buy over the phone and receive in a few days. Great polite people that work in the shop too.

Grow up

What could have been the most idyllic shop in the most idyllic village completely tainted by their huge selection of Golliwog merch (dolls, keychains, mugs). Everything you want to love about Britain like shortbread and tea contrasted with obtrusive racism. It is beyond outdated to sell these dolls and almost more disgusting than selling them is the fact that people actually buy them! They are overtly anti-Black, and come alongside/inspire racial slurs, blackface, racist art and literature. Coming from an all-white British countryside town it is not a symbol of nostalgia (that is pathetic), it is a hugely offensive caricature of Black people. It doesn't take a 'snowflake' to object to them, just takes someone pretty obtuse and racist not to. Stick to shortbread Goathland.

Glad they still sell golliwogs

Im so happy there's still a place I can buy golliwog dolls from . I have been looking for them for years. I will be popping down for a few very soon . Get them while you still can no thanks to a few dumb minded people.

Finally a reliable supplier of Golly-Wogs!

I am delighted to find a supplier of Golly-Wogs and shall be in touch shortly to expedite the delivery of my consignment. As the acting President of the Noddy and Big Ears Live Action Rôle Play and Re-Enactment Society (UK Branch) I am keenly interested in finding historically accurate Golly-Wogs in order to complete a diorama of the halting of Noddy's car (and his subsequent mauling at the hands of those mischievous and unruly scamps - the Gollies!) Despite the excellent illustrations in the Enid Blyton canon there is no substitute for a three dimensional model (as used in the Army for battles for example). I cannot expect the members to "get it right" by reading a children's book. Having these Golly-Wogs will mean our events will remain faithful to the spirit and the letter of the original works of which we are all so fond. With thanks D K For And on Behalf of NABELARP (UK)

You need to remove them now

As shop owners you will want everyone who comes to your shop to feel welcome. You need to understand that golliwogs are a grotesque, demeaning and probably also threatening racial caricature that should never have been acceptable, and is absolutely not acceptable in our society today. You claim in your window that you do not mean to offend, but that is not for you to judge. I was shocked to see them in both your window and that of another of the shops in the village, and if you both persist in displaying them, the reputation of your village will quickly plummet, and rightly so. You need to remove them immediately.

Not in this day and age.

Come on, get a grip and get rid of the racist merch.

Dissapointed

2020 and you need to realise how offensive Golliwogs are or what ever name you want to give them to make it 'look better'. Golliwogs contributed to black face which was a programme where white people painted themselves black and acted like fools. Showing black people in a very bad way. They are racist to the majority of people and may bring back trauma for some. Can you not make a living without offending others and i dont mean just black people .. white and other ethnic groups are deeply offended. Maybe you should educate yourself on the traumas of black history to understand.

Actually

Rather than burn the gollies as that feels racist to me... I'm making a few dolls of the two ugly owners of this store. I will be selling them soon.

Seek mental health help

Both owners need mental health support. The smug arseholes are so thick they think a name change will work. Someone buy their stock and I'll refund you every penny so we can buy the racist items out and dispose of them for good. I'm working with people to have both the individuals exposed properly

WildManDan - 30/07/2020

Brain-dead store owners

The white pair keep claiming these black faced items are okay because they "rebranded" them and left a review so stupid i think they need mental health help. Worse establishment going I hope you both die out ngl. I'll come down buy every single product and burn them. That's a promise.

WildManDan - 30/07/2020

Sad lonely old racists

Agreed, perpetually offended by racist bigots trying to make a living from selling tat that does perpetually offend many people, so why make such a statement and go out of your way to be so 'controversial'. I guess cos you're racist bigots. I hope your business fails. Certainly looks a bit rubbish. Hahaha

In support of the 'gollys'

If you are one of the perpetually offended, who have no doubt mass piled onto this website to leave unwarranted vile abuse levelled at shop owners trying to make a living, in difficult times, I would urge that before you do you check out the Gollynomics website. Here you can fully educate yourself as to the historical context of these lovable and cute ragdolls origins. The site is run by a Ghanian Grandmother who gives an easy to follow history/explanation as to the ragdolls true origins, and why they should not be seen as offensive
